Leicester City defeated Premier League rivals Newcastle United on Wednesday night to progress into the Carabao Cup third round.

Brendan Rodgers surprisingly named a strong lineup, which may suggest his intentions towards success in the competition, with only two changes being made from the Sheffield United victory.

Harvey Barnes was rewarded with a start after netting the winner last Saturday whilst captain Wes Morgan was handed his first appearance of the season.

The game went to penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

James Maddison had opened the scoring in the first half with a deflected free-kick with Newcastle equalising less than ten minutes into the second half when Yoshinori Muto netted from close-range.

There was a controversial incident right before half-time when midfielder Hamza Choudhury was only given a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Matt Ritchie, which left him with ankle ligament damage and needing three stitches.

Magpies boss Steve Bruce declared it a “horror challenge” after the match, but many Leicester supporters do not seem to share the same thoughts.

One fan took a swipe at the 58-year-old, claiming he was well out of his depth and that it was ‘big talk’ for a manager that is only Championship standard.

Another member of the King Power crowd believed the tackle from the 21-year-old didn’t even look that bad whilst one more added it was hard but fair, stating Ritchie got a taste of his own medicine.

Here’s the best of the reaction:
